Raya Abat-Robinson, MSED, LMHC-D, LPC, NCC, CCMHC, CPC is a licensed psychotherapist (New York & New Jersey), board-certified national counselor and certified clinical mental health counselor, certified rape crisis and domestic violence counselor, and certified professional coach based in New York City with advanced training in trauma treatment, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), clinical supervision, and professional coaching.
Raya has been serving students, families and adults of all ages since 2006. Her professional experience includes working in a variety of settings, including hospitals; elementary, middle and high schools; universities; private practice; and non-profit organizations and agencies.
Raya currently works with adolescents, adults of all ages, couples and families, and utilizes an integrative approach to treatment, incorporating cognitive-behavioral, humanistic and psychodynamic methods. She helps her clients navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, career transitions, cultural identity, grief, family conflicts, relationships and dating. She cultivates a non-judgmental environment of safety, warmth, authenticity and trust, in which honest self-exploration can occur. Using a collaborative, multicultural and trauma-informed lens, Raya helps clients recognize their personal strengths and experience healing and growth. In addition to her direct clinical work, Raya provides supervision to staff psychotherapists and graduate psychotherapy interns.
Raya’s therapeutic and supervisory approach is informed both by her own lived experiences as a mother, wife, and first-generation American, as well as her extensive professional training. She combines evidence-based, humanistic and exploratory interventions with a deep appreciation for the diverse backgrounds, experiences, intersecting identities and perspectives of her clients.
