Veda Girishkumar, MS, MHC-I, is a Graduate Mental Health Clinician based in New York City, holding a Master’s in biomedical sciences and currently earning a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University. Her diverse educational and professional background spans gender and sexuality studies, biomedical sciences, and impactful service with AmeriCorps’ National Health Corps. With experience working with individuals in a variety of settings—including hospitals, medical centers, and as a mental health crisis counselor—she brings a well-rounded, compassionate approach to supporting her clients. Having transitioned from a medical career, she brings a unique understanding of the challenges and opportunities that come with career changes and life transitions. Veda is deeply committed to providing equitable care to a diverse community and is passionate about advocating for social justice and access to quality mental health services for all.
As a Graduate Mental Health Clinician, Veda provides both in-person and telehealth services to adults of all ages, helping them navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, interpersonal conflicts, and issues related to chronic illness, caregiving, and overall health and wellness. As a second-generation South Asian woman, she is deeply committed to providing culturally competent care and is passionate about improving accessibility for marginalized communities, ensuring that every individual receives high-quality support that honors their unique, intersecting identities. Additionally, Veda offers bilingual therapy services in Kannada.
Veda’s integrative approach blends psychodynamic, humanistic, and person-centered therapy with multicultural and feminist perspectives, ensuring her practice is rooted in cultural competence, empathy, and ethical care. She customizes her approach to suit the unique needs of each individual, empowering them to reach their mental health and wellness goals with confidence and support. As a passionate dancer, Veda also loves working with artists and performers, offering a deep understanding of the creative challenges and inspirations that come with a life in the arts.
